William F. Barnes, III

  • Since 2009, William has practiced exclusively representing individuals that have sustained significant injuries or lost a loved one - a responsibility he does not take lightly.  His practice areas include car and tractor-trailer wrecks, product liability, wrongful death, and nursing home abuse, among others.
  • As a result, William has successfully represented individuals across South Carolina. He has handled cases in over 30 of South Carolina's 46 counties and been involved in numerous trials that reached a jury verdict.  Beyond the trial court level, William has also argued cases before the South Carolina Supreme Court and South Carolina Court of Appeals.  He was recognized by the publication, Super Lawyers, as a Super Lawyer in the Personal Injury General: Plaintiff practice area for 2023.  Super Lawyers previously recognized him as a Rising Star in the Personal Injury General: Plaintiff practice area from 2014 to 2019.
  • Understanding the nuances of South Carolina's insurance laws is critically important in personal injury cases.  William authored the Uninsured Motorist and Underinsured Motorists chapters of The Law of Automobile Insurance in South Carolina, 7th Ed., published by the South Carolina Bar.  He also presented on those topics at the CLE that accompanied the book release.
  • Giving back to his hometown of Hampton is important to William.  He is a product of Hampton County's public school system, graduating from Wade Hampton High School in 2002 and has previously served on the Hampton County Planning Commission, which included a term as chairman, and the Board of the Lowcountry Community Action Agency, which operates Head Start in Hampton and Colleton counties.  Following a devastating tornado in 2020 that impacted Hampton County, William helped create and co-chaired the Hampton County Assistance Fund that raised over $250,000.00 to help those impacted by the tornado.
  • William currently serves on the South Carolina Association for Justice Board as a Governor for 14th Judicial Circuit (Hampton, Allendale, Beaufort, Colleton, and Jasper Counties) and previously served a two-year term on the Association's Executive Committee.
  • William graduated from Clemson University in 2006 with a degree in Economics and from the Charleston School of Law in 2009.  While in law school, he served on the Charleston Law Review and was President of the Student Trial Lawyers Association.
